Mandatory Alcohol Server Training Required by Passage of SB29

Updated Jan. 16, 2013

Mandatory alcohol server training is now the law of the land in Montana with the passage of SB29 in the 2011 Legislative Session.  The law went into effect on October 1, 2011, and the Department of Revenue began enforcement as of January 1, 2012, so make plans now to get your staff trained.  The law stipulates that all restaurant and bar employees who sell or serve alcohol must be certified by a recognized alcohol server training program.  The most convenient option is online training.  Click here to go to the SSAMONTANA website for more training information.

Note:  After October 1st, 2012, you may require new hires to be certified at their expense prior to employment.  The simplest way to get them trained is to direct them to our website at and click on "Get Started Now."   The cost is $25, but you must put MTMEMBER in the coupon code and hit "Apply Coupon Code" in order to get the discounted rate.  Otherwise, the cost is $30.  If there are questions, please contact Julie at 800-388-0236.
